About 90,000 police officers have so far lost their lives to the Boko Haram insurgency since it started six years ago, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase, has revealed. The police boss disclosed this at the police command headquarters in Sokoto, the Sokoto State capital.
According to Arase, the Nigeria Police Force had a record of about 90,000 widows who lost their husbands since the commencement of the insurgency in the nation's North-East. The Police inspector also noted that the total number of men and officers in the police force were currently inadequate to effectively protect the lives and property of the citizens. He, however, urged his men to rededicate themselves to duty and do away with corruption.
