A history of massive and pre-arranged electoral fraud is about to repeat itself in Akwa Ibom State as State Governor Udom Emmanuel infiltrates and compromises the state’s chapter of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for the expressed purpose of helping him to rig the forth coming repeat governorship election.
Reliable intelligence has revealed that Mr Emmanuel has bribed the state director of NYSC, Mrs Ngozi Chukwuka with N100 million to turn the entire structure of the corps in the state into a rigging machine for the PDP in the coming election.
Mrs Chukwuka, who is from Anambra State, is said to have assured Governor Emmanuel today, on receiving the money, that she would do “another good job.” People who are familiar with recent political events in Akwa Ibom State say Mrs Chukwuka’s statement of assurance to Udom Emmanuel has brought to mind the criminal role the NYSC played in the rigging of the last governorship election in the state on 11 April.
In that controversial election, the NYSC, under the leadership of the same Mrs Chukwuka, was so heavily compromised by the administration of former governor Godswill Akpabio that it became a willing partner in crime with the state INEC to rig all the elections in the state. A serving corps member at the time of the elections, Miss Precious Chidima, who confessed to the connivance of the NYSC with the state PDP administration, was victimised by the youth service corps under the leadership of Mrs Chukwuka to please her paymasters in Government House, Uyo. The youth corps girl’s life was threatened and she had to go into hiding for some time.
The ongoing infiltration of the NYSC by the Udom administration is coordinated by the state commissioner for youths and sports, Mr Monday Uko, who is also the owner of Monty Suites, a hotel located by Edet Akpan Avenue in Uyo. The state governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel plans to continue his interaction to compromise the NYSC leadership and members with a personal attendance at its party in the NYSC camp in Nsit Atai next Saturday.
