Dangote, Ovia Others Partner Vice President on Made-In-Nigeria Festival

Buoyed by the need stimulate economic growth, foremost Nigerian entrepreneurs and industrialists have teamed up with the office of the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), to take concrete steps that will help grow a truly Made-In-Nigeria economy – using the forthcoming maiden edition of Made-in-Nigeria (MaIN) Festival as a medium. The list includes:

Aliko Dangote, Founder and CEO, Dangote Group; Stella Okoli, Founder, Emzor Pharmaceuticals, Prince Adesegun Oniru, Founder Made In Nigeria (MaIN) Group and immediate-past Lagos State Commissioner for Waterfront and Infrastructure Development; Ronald Chagoury, Founder and CEO, Chagoury Group and Jim Ovia, Founder, Zenith Bank.

The Vice President, is billed to lead a panel of speakers at the Made-in-Nigeria (MaIN) Summit – a major component of the maiden edition of Made-in-Nigeria (MaIN) Festival, holding at Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island, Lagos from September 23rd – October 1st, 2016.

With the rapid decline in the price of crude oil, soaring inflation and the global shocks occasioned by a combination of factors including the United Kingdom’s vote to exit the European Union, no doubt, Nigeria, the MaIN Group notes, is facing its greatest economic challenge since the turn of the century. These factors, it pointed out, underscore the need to diversify the economy, foster innovation and creativity and promote a buy-Nigeria culture.

“The Made In Nigeria Festival is an attempt to force productivity and promote what we consider to be the true Nigerian spirit of ingenuity and enterprise,” Prince Adesegun Oniru, stated recently. He added: “We can no longer rely on our one sole commodity [Crude Oil] to support our economy. We need to evolve new innovative ways of increasing productivity and finding new markets, especially domestic markets. We’re by no means advocating a closed economy, but we feel that our economy will continue to suffer unless we consciously begin to break the boundaries that deprive us the benefits of investing in our own country.”

With the theme: “Innovate. Connect. Power The Future” MaIN Festival seeks to enhance innovation and productivity while improving domestic and foreign investments. Entrepreneurs, especially small scale businesses would be empowered to reach new markets and potential investors during the festival, while international Trade Missions would also explore opportunities that are available in Africa’s largest economy.

The Festival comprises a 3-day Summit, an exhibition, a technology exposition and a daily showcase of Nigeria’s finest foods and flavours, movies, fashion, music and art. Over 5,000 Nigerians have already signed up to be part of this year’s festival.

The grand finale of the festival is a special celebration of Nigeria’s independence comprising a phenomenal showcase of music artistry that would also take place at Eko Atlantic City. The Made In Nigeria Festival is being organized by the MaIN Group, a collaboration of private sector organisations. Board of Advisors of the initiative include: Prince Adesegun Oniru, Mr. Aliko Dangote, Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Okoli, Mr. Ronald Chagoury, Mr. Jim Ovia and Senator Oluremi Tinubu

FALLOUT OF ODUDU UKPANAH'S ACQUITTAL: DIVINE PUNISHMENT AWAITS DRACULA

BY OFONIME HONESTY
Dear readers, how I wish could scream for the whole world to hear. Yes, the world must hear this news. The world must hear that somewhere in the southern axis of Nigeria, Akwa Ibom State to be precise, a modern day David has defeated a modern day Goliath. Where are those who always beat their chest and brag that their "god" has never ever lost a legal battle? Someone should help me tell them that a certain Odudu Ukpanah has aborted that unwanted record. Senator Chief Godswill Akpabio has finally kissed the legal dust.
Dear reader, I can hear you ask: "What is he really talking about?" Probably, you have been living under a rock; otherwise you would have heard that an Elder statesman,Engr. Albert Ukpanah, was murdered, his son incarcerated, his daughters victimized and his loyalists threatened by one man whose nickname should be Dracula. And that was just the early part of a long tale capable of squeezing tears out of stone.
Heaven knows that I don't hate Akpabio as a person. I appreciate his contributions to my state of origin. I only frown at his excesses. When a governor (as he then was) chooses not to follow due process and instead resort to governing via maniacal antics and tactics, then something has gone amiss. Throughout Akpabio's eight long years as governor, victimization was a key weapon in his arsenal.
When Albert Ukpanah was gruesomely dispatched to the land of no return, the consensus school of thought was that it was "politically motivated." The Police later corroborated the fact-backed belief.
But all of a sudden, Akpabio went gaga. Immediately after Engr. Ukpanah's corpse was committed to mother earth, he ordered the arrest of the son, Odudu. Loads of baseless claims were heaped on his young head.
Before one could pronounce wickedness, Akpabio ordered that a case be filed at the Abak High Court. The case was titled: "THE STATE VERSUS ODUDU UKPANAH"
Akpabio's vitriolic vituperations did not help matters. He told those who cared to listen how Odudu murdered the father. Akpabio goofed by accusing without evidence. Odudu featured prominently in his speeches at various events. And he almost brainwashed many. But sane people knew that his vituperation was a smokescreen.
Days rolled into weeks, weeks into months. Months later metamorphosed into a couple of years. We waited for the judgement. We hanged our hope on the fact that a clear conscience fears no accusation.
And on Thursday, June 2, 2016, news broke that Justice Ezekiel Enang had to discharge and acquit the accused on grounds that the allegations are absolute balderdash.
While the Ukpanahs can now heave a sigh of relief, the damage has already been done. Their father was slaughtered on the altar of Akwa Ibom politics. The family's resources (financially and otherwise) which could have been used in profitable ventures were channeled towards countering the propaganda war waged by someone with stained hands.
Make no mistake, I am not a historian. As a Christian, I believe in forgiveness. But how can someone who has seemingly vowed to die with wickedness be forgiven?
Justice Enang has delivered his judgment as a human. What remains is the divine judgement to be delivered by the Supreme Attorney of the Universe. The pains and tears of the Ukpanahs shall be taken into consideration by the divine judge. The blood of Mr. Ukpanah shall speak on that day. There and then, the blood thirsty never-do-well will know that Karma is an infectious bitch.
Dear readers, something tells me that this is panic time in the camp of our political Draculas.

Oyo State House of Assembly on Thursday passed a bill banning smoking in public places in the state.
The “Bill to Regulate Smoking in Public Places and for Connected Purposes’’ also provides three to six months imprisonment or fine of between N15, 000 and N50, 000 for offenders.
The bill was sponsored by Mr Segun Ajanaku and Mr Segun Olaleye, representing Ibadan South-West II and Ibadan North II constituencies, respectively.
Supporting the passage of the bill, the Chairman of the assembly’s Committee on Health, Mr Silas Okunola, said that the bill was necessary for regulating smoking in designated places, include shopping centres, restaurants, public toilets and cinemas.
Other areas covered by the proposed law are hospitals, creches, schools and public transportation vehicles within the state.
Specifically, the bill stipulates fine of N15, 000 or three month imprisonment or both for first time offenders while any person guilty of repeated act would be liable to a N50, 000 fine or six months imprisonment or both.
It also stipulates that any person found guilty of smoking in the presence of a child in a manner that exposes smoke to be injurious to the child, would be liable to a month imprisonment with an option of N15, 000 or both.
The bill states that any person who repeatedly violates the provision of not smoking in the presence of a child will be liable to one year imprisonment with an option of not less than N100, 000 or both.
It makes it compulsory for any person involved with the management of a public place to put a ‘No-Smoking’ sign in conspicuous areas. It states that refusal to place the sign or symbol by a corporate body, director, manager, company secretary or any person concerned in the management of the corporate body will be liable to N250, 000 fine upon conviction.
According to the provisions of the bill, any person found guilty of not putting up a ‘No-Smoking’ sign would be liable to six months imprisonment or N100,000 or other non-custodial punishment that the court may deem fit.
In another development, the lawmakers called on relevant government agencies and departments to investigate the incidence of earth tremor experienced in Saki West constituency.
They made the call following a motion by the Deputy Speaker, Mr Musah Abdulwasi, brought under Matters of Urgent Public Importance. According to Abdulwasi, Saki town has been experiencing cases of tremor in its communities around Medina, Abimbola and Veterinary areas.
He said that the tremor occurred in the affected area as often as three days intervals.
“A tremor ordinarily precedes an earthquake. Unless urgent steps are taken, the affected communities will continue to live in a state of apprehension, anxiety and insecurity and it will affect the quality of life of the residents,” he said.
